”Footprints on the Edge of Thule”
Researchers from the Universities of Aberdeen and Stirling are visiting Gammplatsen (the Old Site) for a couple of days. They are working on a project, ”Footprints on the Edge of Thule”, which is a British four-year research project.
The purpose of the project is to explore historical changes of the landscape in the north Atlantic-Arctic periphery, when Old Norse colonizers/communities met with original cultures, mainly in the Middle Ages. Gammplatsen is one of their research objects. The work involves taking samples from various types of soil, for analyses of e.g. pollen, insects, and to make micromorphological analyses.
