The pinetree from Norräng was discovered and dug up during street work in Norräng, Lycksele 1986. The pinetree, 1.6 m tall, stood upright with its roots firmly in the earth at about 5 m depth, and a diameter of about 30 cm. The tree had grown unusually fast during its first 30 years with up to 6-7 mm wide growth rings, to later suddenly reduce in width and grow very slow during the remaining 30 years.

A C-14 dating revealed that the tree was around 8700 years old (8675 +- 70 BP) and therefore probably the oldest encountered in Norrlands inland below the mountain forest. The stem hade several wounds after fires which indicates that the surrounding vegetation while the tree was alive was so thick that forest fires could start. The tree was not alone - two smaller stems were found at the same time. Perhaps Lyckseles "terracotta army" in shape of a pinetree collection lies buried in Norräng... The tree is now exhibited at The Machine Era in The Museum of Forestry.
